Patio Reconstruction – Woodbury

The owners of this Woodbury home were keen to find a way to enjoy the magnificent views of the Capricorn Coast year-round from their elevated hilltop position. They opted to demolish their existing open patio and rebuild and enclose it, with direct access from the main residence.

The design, engineering, materials, and extra finishes of this 55m2 patio creates a modern indoor/outdoor living space that celebrates its location and guarantees its integrity, even in C4 cyclonic conditions.

Internal features of the patio include the extensive use of Solarblock commercial-grade glazing to allow for the sweeping 270 degree views of the coastline and surrounding countryside. Hardies Hardigroove was used for internal cladding, Paulownia Lining Boards in ‘Sand Dune’ for the ceiling, and rectified-edge porcelain tiles were selected for premium floor coverings.

External features include the use of 190 x 190 merbau posts with custom 16mm thick stainless steel T brackets connecting the posts to the slab. Hardies Stria external cladding with expressed joints around the bulkhead vertically-align with the posts underneath to create clean lines. The feature step around the patio was constructed using 100 x 50 dressed ironbark decking and the downpipes were made using 316 polish grade stainless steel with fully-mitred and polished corners to create a stunning modern aesthetic.

The completed patio reconstruction adds an inviting and practical addition to this Woodbury home – one that is built to last and to be enjoyed for many years to come. For photos of this project, please click here.

In December 2015, the current owners of the homestead contacted D&E Constructions to complete renovation work to Riversleigh. In collaboration with Gill Kerr Drafting Service of Rockhampton, plans for the homestead renovation were completed and construction commenced in January 2016. It was completed four months later.

Features of the work include the use of spotted gum hardwood throughout the verandah flooring, posts, stairs and balustrade, hand-cut spires, customised brackets at the front entry, intricate carpentry in the rotunda ceiling and a full re-paint of the homestead.
